Frequently asked questions

1.1 Who invented the "solid wood wall"-system?

  • The SWW was invented by german engineer Hans Hundegger. He wanted a woodhome for himself, but was not satisfied with the available systems. Hans' company is a world market leader for carpenty machines and is located in the beautiful "Allgäu"-region of southern Bavaria

1.2 How many houses have been built with the sww?

  • The sww-system is only a few years old. Nevertheless even the critical, quality obsessed german customers have embraced the concept, so that in the meantime hundreds of buildings were constructed with the sww-system.

1.3 What kind of wood do you use for the sww?

  • Pine, spruce or fir is used for the sww. The boards are a by-product of sawmills and have to comply with certain quality standards

1.4 Why dont you need any chemicals/preservatives to protect the wood?

  • Before a wood wall element is produced, the boards are dried under certain specifications. The drying process kills any kind of wood pest. As the wood stays dry there is no danger for future damage. Dry wood buildings often last for centuries.

1.5 If I want to have a wood home, shouldn't I build a log-house?

  • If you like the feeling of a wood-home, a log-house could be an option. But you have to accept these facts:
Building a good loghome is an art and needs a lot of care and experience. Otherwise results can be disappointing.
With loghomes you will always experience some shrinkage and settling. Air/Wind-tightness and good thermal insulation is harder to reach.
A Log-house is fairly restricted concerning the appearance and the design of the building.
With the Vayu-"solid wood wall" you get all advantages of wood-homes but no limits in design and you can create a building in any style you want
